Music: Count Us In (MCUI) is Australia’s biggest school initiative bringing teachers, parents, students and the music industry together in celebration of music and music education. In 2016, MCUI celebrated their 10th anniversary and in 2017, more than 650,000 students from over 3,000 schools participated nationwide.
MCUI starts and ends with the Program Song. The 2018 song was written by 5 student finalists who were selected from across Australia, mentored by Justine Clarke and Music Australia Program Ambassador and TDP Graduate John Foreman OAM. The TDP were approached to help find the lead vocalist for this year’s song.
Current student Martha Chess Phelps who is in Year 11 at Sydney Secondary School, Blackwattle Bay Campus was chosen as the main singer.
In May, Martha, the student instrumentalists from The Arts Unit and mentors from the Sydney Symphony Orchestra all came together to record the 2018 Program Song at the Sony Studio in Sydney.
On Celebration Day, Thursday 1st November 2018, all of the registered schools across the country will sing the program song on this day all at the same time.
Participating in MCUI is a great way for schools to engage with their local community, advocate directly to their Government representatives and showcase the talented and dedicated students and teachers they have at their school.
TDP are thrilled to have been involved in this initiative and we can’t wait to hear the final song!
