TDP Graduate lends his voice to hit movie musical

Movie audiences and critics alike are raving about the new feature musical Bran Nue Dae, starring Jessica Mauboy, Missy Higgins, Ernie Dingo and Geoffrey Rush. But unless they read the final credits, many wouldn’t realize that TDP graduate, Brendon Boney, plays a vital part in the film.

Brendon was chosen to lend his vocal talents to one of the main characters, Willie, played by young actor Rocky McKenzie. While Rocky may be a force to be reckoned with as an actor, the film’s producers felt his singing voice was not sufficiently strong for the role. Brendon was approached last May and agreed to sign up for the singing part.

As one half of the duo, Microwave Jenny, Brendon has been performing with fellow TDP graduate Tessa Nuku and working on their first album to be released in March. Being involved in the film proved to be an exciting experience for the 22-year-old, formerly from Wagga Wagga. Brendon says he found it rather surreal when he watched the finished film and heard his voice come out of someone else’s mouth. “But after a while I forgot it was me singing,” he says. Brendon has given Bran Nue Dae a big thumbs up.
