Workshop Information
The Sydney Program
The Talent Development Project workshops are held at the Sydney Entertainment Centre for two days each month, over twelve months.
A junior troupe program operates alongside the core graduate program.
The core program/group works to a three-phase workshop structure. At the end of phases 1 and 2, students must progress through auditions and workshops before reaching the graduation showcase. This concert is held at the Sydney Entertainment Centre in front of an audience of peers, family and industry professionals, as well as the paying general public.
The junior troupe consists of students in Years 9 and 10 who show passion, drive and talent as singers and/or songwriters. These students will be guided over a longer period of time and invited to targeted workshops during the twelve months. In some cases, this may be for as long as three years, until it is decided that they are ready to progress to the core program.
There are very limited places for this stream.
The Audition Process
The first audition for the TDP is via video/DVD sent to the TDP Coordinator with a nomination form signed and supported by the school principal and contact teacher.
This audition is open to all NSW Public High School students in years 10, 11 and 12 who are seeking a career as a singer and/or songwriter in the Entertainment industry.
Nomination forms are available to be downloaded from the TDP website and also the DET Performing Arts Unit web site during term one of each new calendar year.
Students are asked to submit a VHS video or DVD of their two performances. From these videos suitable students will be invited for live auditions to be held in May/June at the Sydney Entertainment Centre.
From this live audition, around 30 students are accepted into the first phase of the program. Around 10 students graduate at the end of the 12 months.
The major sponsor of TDP is the NSW Department of Education and Training. Students are encouraged to remain actively involved in performing arts within your school and the wider community. As this program is endorsed and supported by DET, students have permission to be absent from school on workshop days.
TDP students are often featured artists of the NSW DET Schools Spectacular during their time in TDP.
